Hi! How are you?

Thanks for your time and interest.
I'm Mpampis, the receipts watch, from Crete, Greece.

What am I doing?

My aim is to help put a stop to tax evasion in Greece.
I aim to raise awareness and crowdsource useful information that I then forward to the tax police (SDOE).

Why am I doing it?

Long story short, this is intended to be a small step in an attempt to pull Greece out of the crisis.

Ok, but why?

Based on a conservative estimate, the university cafe is selling about 80 frappe cups of coffee every day, for 1€ each.
The cafe doesn't bring receipts.
If a cup of frappe coffee costs them 20 cents to make, that means they steal 18.4 cents (VAT tax) on each cup.
That's 14,72€ they're stealing every day.
14,72€ x (22 days each month) x (~9 months the cafe is fully functioning) = 2914€.

So, in total, the university cafe is stealing from you, and me, and all of us, about 3000€ every year, just from selling frappe coffee.

3000€ is equivalent to :

  • More than 8 months of unemployment benefits (360€ each month), for your aunt or my cousin who was laid off recently
  • or
  • 7 months of farmers' (OGA) pension (average 413€ each month), for my grandma or your grandpa
  • or
  • Two and a half monthly salaries (~1200€ each month) for Olga, a resident physician at the local hospital
  • or
  • More than 3 months of PhD scholarship salary (900€ each month) for Yianni

For Yianni, Olga, my grandma, your grandpa, your aunt, my cousin, for you and for me, I created Mpampis.
